MARTIN WHITEMAN

Director & Lead Engineer

Martin is a versatile musician, producer and recording engineer keen to pass on the knowledge he has gained from nearly two decades in the music industry.

 

As a performer he has toured the world playing keyboards with various bands and DJs such as Lo Fidelity Allstars and Caged Baby.

 

As a recording engineer Martin has made numerous recordings for major record labels including Sony, Universal Music, Parlophone, Sub Pop and has worked in a wide range of styles for artists such as Tom Jones, Xecutioners, Matt & Kim, Jamie Lidell, The Charlatans and many more.

 

In addition to this Martin is an accomplished song writer and arranger having been signed to Warner Chappell for many years and is a classically trained violinist. Martin has a broad experience of teaching at a variety of levels having given keyboard and violin lessons and also training intern studio engineers and music technology students in their final degree year.

MARTYN STOREY

Assistant Engineer

Guitar hero and self-professed music geek, Martyn brings a versatile mix of musicianship and technical knowledge to the studio team.

With fingers in many pies, Martyn teaches workshops and provides one-on-one guitar tuition as well as getting his hands dirty in the control room and helping run our in-house record label somewhere> records.

Martyn holds a BSc Hons in Audio & Recording Technology, performs regularly with local band The Unruly and also showcases his love of 8-bit and prog through his solo releases as Audio Shadows.

MIKE HEAPS

Director & Studio Manager

A talented multi-instrumentalist and qualified music educator, Mike brings a wide range of skills to the team and handles the day to day management of the studio, as well as overseeing the various workshops and projects that operate out of Brickwork Studios.

With many years experience of writing and performing music in a variety of styles and genres, Mike decided to turn his lifelong passion for music into a workshop and tuition business (Room for Music) in 2011 and with the help of his dedicated team, opened Brickwork Studios in 2016.

In partnership with the studio, Mike also raised funds to launch a unique community-led record label, focused on supporting young musicians and original music. somewhere > records was born in 2017 and is run out of Brickwork Studios as a not-for-profit by a dedicated team of volunteers, musicians and creatives.
